Terms of Use for paying using Tikkie

Last updated on May 9, 2023

What are these Terms of Use all about?

These Terms of Use apply to a one-off Tikkie payment. You can read below how a Tikkie payment is made. This service is provided by ABN AMRO Bank N.V.* (“ABN AMRO”).

How does paying using Tikkie work?

You can pay using Tikkie when someone has sent you a link with a payment request using the Tikkie app. You can pay using iDEAL or use Tikkie to set up a payment order with your own bank. The latter option is called a payment initiation service, or PIS.

When paying using iDEAL, you first make a payment to ABN AMRO and then ABN AMRO transfers the payment to the bank account (IBAN) stated in the description included with your iDEAL payment. Once the money has been transferred you receive confirmation and ABN AMRO lets the other person know in the Tikkie app that you have confirmed that you have paid. When paying using PIS, ABN AMRO sets up a payment order for you on your own banking platform and you then directly pay into the bank account (IBAN) stated in the payment order. ABN AMRO lets the other person know in the Tikkie app that you have paid through PIS.

ABN AMRO selects the best payment method for you (iDEAL or PIS). By making the payment, you consent to ABN AMRO choosing the payment method.

When will the person making the request be paid?

When paying using iDEAL, ABN AMRO will process the payment as soon as possible after receiving your payment. The amount will be paid into the specified bank account (IBAN) no later than on the next working day.

When paying using PIS, you make the payment yourself after ABN AMRO has set it up for you with your bank. Your bank should have transferred the amount to the bank account with the IBAN stated in the payment order no later than on the next working day.

IBAN Name Check

Tikkie may perform an IBAN Name Check of the payee. If such a check has indeed been performed, you can tell by the green tick by the payee’s name. This is just intended to be a helpful feature and no rights can be derived from it. Even if there is not a tick next to the requester’s name you can still make the Tikkie payment.

What does it cost to use this service?

ABN AMRO does not charge anything for a Tikkie payment.

What is ABN AMRO responsible for and what not?

When you pay using iDEAL, ABN AMRO is only responsible for transferring the payment to the bank account (IBAN) stated in the description included with your (iDEAL) payment. At ABN AMRO, we do not verify the name of the person receiving the payment. If the payment is not credited to the specified IBAN, ABN AMRO must prove that the payee’s bank has received the payment. If they have, this person can ask at their own bank why the amount has not been credited to their account. If ABN AMRO cannot prove that the bank of the person you are trying to pay has received the amount, ABN AMRO must refund the amount to you.

When you pay using PIS, ABN AMRO will take care of setting up the payment order with your own bank. You make the payment into the bank account (IBAN) in question yourself and your bank will process the payment. If the payment has not appeared in the payee’s bank account, you will have to query the payment with your own bank or with the payee’s bank. ABN AMRO is not liable for any loss or damage that may be suffered due to, for example, the payment not immediately being credited to the stated IBAN.

What to do if you have a complaint about the payment

If you have a complaint about a payment, please contact the Tikkie help desk on WhatsApp: +31 (0)6 137 68 528.
