Problems with SMS verification?
Step 1 (for all devices)
SMS verification is required to register with Tikkie. Sometimes the text message doesn’t arrive. To resolve the issue, please follow the steps below.
Check that your mobile connection is working properly. For example, if you’re currently using Wi-Fi to access the internet, this says nothing about the quality of your mobile connection. The text message is sent via your mobile connection.
- Are you abroad? If so, SMS verification won’t work (properly). It should work as normal in the Netherlands.
- Check whether your text message inbox is full. If it is, you won’t receive any more text messages.
- Put your phone into aeroplane mode. Leave it in this mode for at least a full 15 minutes (no less!) to reset the mobile network.
- Switch off your phone and remove the battery and SIM card. Reinsert both after 5 minutes and switch the phone back on. Check that your phone is connected to the correct network and has a good signal. If this isn’t the case, select ‘Manual Network Selection’ in Settings (instead of ‘Automatic Network Selection’). Check that your device is connected to the correct network and try again. You can also try switching on aeroplane mode for 5 to 10 minutes to reset the mobile network.
Is the problem still not resolved? If so, proceed to Step 2. Depending on your device, follow the instructions for iPhone or for Android devices.
Step 2 (for Android)
Check the spam filter. Select ‘Menu’ or the ‘three dots icon’ in the top right-hand corner of the screen > Settings > Spam Filter. If this feature is switched on, the spam filter is active. Switch it off and try again. The spam filter may be blocking the text messages.
- Check that ‘Get Notifications’ is switched on. Go to Phone Settings > Apps. Select the app from which you want to receive messages and check that ‘Get Notifications’ is switched on.
- Check the ‘Developer Options’ setting. Go to Phone Settings and check whether ‘Developer Options’ is enabled. If so, disable this setting.
- Check the ‘Locked’ setting. If you’re not receiving messages because your phone is locked, go to Phone Settings > Device > Sounds & Notifications > While Locked > Set to: Show all content.
- Check that no third-party apps are installed on your phone. These may be blocking the messages.
Check whether your SIM card is still working properly. You can only do this if you have a second handset. Insert the SIM card into this handset and register again. This will allow you to see whether the text message comes through on that handset. Check beforehand that your phone is connected to the correct network and has a good signal. Are you receiving a text message? If so, the problem is with the handset. Your phone may not be SIM-unlocked, or there may be another technical issue. Not receiving a text message on the second handset either? Then the problem may lie with the SIM card. It may be damaged, preventing messages from coming through. You can request a new SIM card from your mobile provider.
Reset your device. Please note: you do this entirely at your own risk! Only try this as a last resort.
If the problem hasn’t been resolved after following steps 1 and 2, we recommend contacting your mobile provider or the device manufacturer to find out why the text messages aren’t coming through.
Step 2 (for iPhone)
Check that ‘Filter unknown senders’ is switched off. Go to Settings > Messages > Unknown & Spam > Filter unknown senders. If this feature is enabled, you will not receive notifications for messages not sent by your contacts. ‘Unknown’ messages end up in a ‘Spam’/‘Blocked’/‘Deleted’/‘Archived’/‘Unknown’ SMS inbox.
- Check that the ‘Do Not Disturb’ feature is switched off. Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb. If ‘Manual’ is selected, the mode is active. You will not receive notifications when the iPhone is locked.
- Check that no third-party apps are installed on your phone. These may be blocking the messages.
- Check your mobile network provider. Force the device to connect to a different provider (for example, KPN instead of Vodafone). This will reset the connection.
